How is the east side of Mallorca and what are its main locations?
The east side of Mallorca stands out for its irregular coastline, its many virgin beaches and the mountainous area called "Sierra de Llevant" that runs parallel to the east coast. In this mountainous area we find several peaks with heights close to 500 meters, most have sanctuaries, viewpoints or old watchtowers. Near the town of Artà we find the natural park of the Peninsula del Llevant which is part of this mountainous extension with beautiful beaches and numerous itineraries for hikers.
The main towns in this area are Manacor and Artà with its beautiful historic centers and emblematic buildings. These locations are very well connected to the coastal towns and have a great offer in shops, bars and restaurants. On the coast, the towns of Cala Rajtada, Porto Cristo, Cala Millor and Porto Colom stand out, all of them with a great tourist infrastructure and beautiful beaches in their surroundings.
On the east coast, the natural ports of Porto Cristo and Porto Colom stand out. The sea goes naturally inland leaving the ports protected by beautiful cliffs. Large sandy beaches alternate with steeper areas and small virgin coves. Along the coast we also find the famous caves of El Drach, the caves of Els Hams and the caves of Artà.
List of the most important towns in the east of Mallorca.
Manacor. It is the largest town in the east. It has a large historic center with numerous pedestrian streets and small squares. Here we find a great offer in shops and restaurants. Some emblematic buildings are the neo-Gothic Church located in the old town and the medieval building with the Manacor history museum located on the outskirts of the town.
Artà. The town of Artà stands out for its beautiful pedestrian center where it celebrates its popular local market every Tuesday. The walled enclosure and temple of Sant Salvador stands out in the upper part of the town. In the vicinity of Artá we find several archaeological settlements.
Capdepera. Capdepera is located at the foot of a small mountain where the walled enclosure and its medieval castle stand out. In its center we find the main square called the Plaza de Orient around which there are most local businesses.
Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. Sant Llorenç stands out for its proximity to the town of Manacor and the east coast of the island. The town is surrounded by various mountains belonging to the Sierra de Levante. It has a beautiful pedestrian center and its local market held every Thursday is very popular.
Son Serra de Marina. The town of Son Serra de Marina is located in the bay of Alcudia. It is a small fishing town and summer area of other nearby local towns. It has a beautiful marina and beautiful sandy beaches in its surroundings.
Cala Ratjada. Cala Ratjada is an important tourist center. It has a large seafront promenade, a marina and fishing port and a wide range of restaurants and small shops. Next to the town we find beautiful beaches where Cala Agulla stands out for its dimensions and beauty.
Son Servera. Son Servera is a small town near the coast. It has a beautiful pedestrian center where its town hall, the Sant Joan Baptista church and the New Church are located. Most local businesses are found in its central part. Its weekly market is very popular.
Cala Millor. Cala Millor is a tourist town located in front of a large sandy area. It has a beautiful seafront promenade and a wide range of restaurants and little shops. Highlights near Cala Millor the area called Punta de n'Amer where we find an old watchtower.
Sa Coma. Sa Coma is a tourist town located very close to Cala Millor, it separates it from the coastal area Punta de n'Amer. It has a wide seafront promenade where we find numerous restaurants and shops. Highlights its large sandy beach with its many water activities.
Porto Cristo. Known as Puerto de Manacor, it has a natural harbour of great beauty and a beautiful sandy beach well protected from the waves. This town is residential although very visited by tourists. It has a beautiful seafront promenade where we find a varied offer in restaurants.
Porto Colom. Porto Colom stands out for its great natural harbor, one of the largest in the entire Mediterranean. Its port is home to numerous little boats in addition to fishing boats. It has a beautiful promenade and a great tourist offer.
