How is the west of Mallorca and what are its main locations?
In the western part of Mallorca, the capital of the island called Palma stands out with its extensive bay. Here we find one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean where we can see from luxurious yachts to huge cruises. The bay of Palma has an extensive sandy beach several kilometers long known as Playa de Palma, next to it stands a large tourist infrastructure. Bellver Castle or the cathedral of Palma called "La Seu" are some of the historic buildings that stand out.
Some of the most popular locations on the island are found in the west, such as Magaluf, Andratx or Portals Nous. Near Palma and along the coast we find numerous coastal towns and important tourist resorts. Beautiful sandy beaches next to towns, small virgin coves with difficult access, cliffs, some islets and numerous marinas are part of the coastline of this area. On its west end is the town of Sant Elm and in front of this town the beautiful island of Sa Dragonera.
The mountainous formation called Sierra de Tramuntana is also present in the west of the island. Important elevations such as the Puig des Galatzó make this area an ideal place for hikers. The area that extends from the beach of Palma towards the South of the island is less populated, partly because of its geography, it is a great plain with spectacular cliffs above the sea. From the west of Mallorca you can see spectacular sunsets.
