Illetas, a town near Palma. It stands out for the geography of its coast; islets, sand coves, rocky areas, etc.

Update 09/02/23. Illetas, an integral community attached to the municipality of Calviá resort. It is quite close to Palma de Mallorca. For this reason many of the capital's citizens choose to leave in this lovely place. The name Illetas means 'islands'; which is a reflection of the nearby islets known as Sa Torre, Sa Caleta and S'Estenedor.

There is a good hotel infrastructure in Illetas and it is of high quality. For this reason the resort is much favoured by those whose calling is arranging accommodation for business and the tourist trades. Illetas is ideal for those who wish to be fairly close to the capital without being part of it; there are excellent beaches to be enjoyed.

The town of Illetas follows the line of pine-clad hills and mountains where they embrace the Mediterranean. The coast itself is quite rocky and uneven. Those who like pool and rock hopping will find plenty to keep them interested or amused. There are sandy coves that offer safe opportunity to relax as the Mediterranean is not tidal.

The landscape here is remarkably attractive and inspiring. The panorama is a tapestry of pine tree slops and vales, rocks, sandy coves and tempting islets. There is much that is alluring about this wild yet sociable locality. Although private homes and hotels occupy large areas in this town there is a fairly remote disused military construction that has been left fallow and unspoilt.

Highlights or note include three outstandingly beautiful coves. These can be located on local maps and are signposted. Look for Cala Countess, Es Forti and Playa de Illetas. All are in sandy locations that offer scenic views. Within walking or swimming distance there is much pleasing vegetation growing in harmony with the encroaching seascapes. Also noteworthy is the Torre de Illetas (Towers of the Islets) built in the sixteenth century. These served as manned posts to carry early warning of seaborne slavery expeditions carried out by North Africa's Barbary pirate attacks..

How to arrive:

Illetas is a few minutes drive from Palma de Mallorca. If driving there from the capital then best take the motorway signposted towards Andratx and look out for the well signposted exits early on in your journey.
