Puig de Bonany
Excursion to Puig de Bonany from Petra. Distance 8 km, time 1:50h, easy.
The Puig de Bonany is a mountain of 317 meters high located between the municipalities of Petra, Villafranca de Bonany and San Juan in the inner part of the island.
At the top of the mountain we find the Sanctuary of Bonany dating from the seventeenth century although the current building dates from the twentieth century.
You can trace the route to go the Puig de Bonany from any of the three nearby locations , Petra, Villafranca de Bonany or San Juan, the distance to do is very similar.
Initially we will follow the asphalted road and once we approach the foot of the Puig de Bonany we can go by walking trails. Most of the way goes through shady areas so any season is good for the trip.
The final part of the way is by a stone staircase where highlights a large cross placed in honor of Fray Junípero Serra.
At Easter, the three nearby towns celebrate together a party at the Santuario de Bonany.
It is usual to see groups of cyclists climbing the Puig de Bonany.
How to arrive:
Petra is located in the central part of Mallorca. In the southern part of the town of Petra we find the Bonany road that leads to the Puig de Bonany and its sanctuary.
