Main locations in the north of Mallorca.

How is the north of Mallorca and what are its main locations?

The northern area of Mallorca stands out as the most mountainous area of the island. Here is the Sierra de Tramuntana that has important peaks such as the Puig Major or the Puig Tomir. In this mountainous area, the reservoirs of the Gorg Blau and the Gorg de Cuber also stand out. Some points of special interest in the Sierra de Tramuntana are the monastery of Lluch, Sa Calobra, the town of Valldemossa or the Port of Soller. It is an ideal area for cycling enthusiasts and also for hikers.

The bays of Pollensa and Alcudia are also located in the north of Mallorca. In these bays there are numerous beaches and pristine coves. The Formentor Lighthouse located at the north end is one of the most visited points of the island. The wetlands of the Albufera de Alcudia or the Albufereta in the bay of Pollensa also stand out. The main tourist resorts are the towns of Puerto de Alcudia, Puerto de Pollensa and Can Picafort. The largest sandy beach in Mallorca is found between the towns of Puerto de Alcudia and Can Picafort and has many water activities.

In the northern part of Mallorca we also find some inland towns such as Sa Pobla or Campanet. Here the land is flatter and the cultivation areas predominate. The main local markets in the north are those of Alcudia, Pollensa, Soller and Sa Pobla. The most famous festivals celebrated in the north are those of Sant Antoni in Sa Pobla in mid January and the festival of Moors and Christians in Pollensa in late July.

List of the most important towns in the north of Mallorca.

Alcudia. The town of Alcudia retains its medieval wall and most of its historic center is pedestrian. Around the town we find numerous garden areas. We highlight the Roman ruins of Pollentia, the church of San Jaume and its weekly market that is held on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Puerto de Alcudia. The Puerto de Alcudia is the most important tourist resort in the north. It has a beautiful promenade full of shops, bars and restaurants. The largest sandy beach in Mallorca is found here. It is an ideal place to enjoy a family vacation.

Pollensa. Pollensa is a town of great beauty, in fact the town with its landscapes have been a great inspiration for many artists. Some of the most outstanding places in Pollensa are the Calvari, the Pont Roma and the Puig de María. It highlights its weekly market that is celebrated on Sundays and the popular Moors and Christians festivities held at the end of July.

Puerto de Pollensa. The Puerto de Pollensa is one of the most prominent tourist resorts in Mallorca. It has a magnificent marina and a large promenade where there are numerous exclusive restaurants. Its beach is sandy and has calm waters. It is an ideal place to practice water sports, mainly sailing.

Can Picafort. The town of Can Picafort stands out for its maritime line where there is an extensive sea front promenade with many restaurants and shops. It has a magnificent sandy beach and a small marina. Highlights the natural area of Son Real located next to the town.

Sa Pobla. Sa Pobla is an inland town known for its agricultural activity. In the town the Plaza Major stands out where we find numerous bars and restaurants. It is famous for the breakfast "variats" that are served in most of the local bars. It also highlights its weekly market that is held every Sunday. The most popular festival in the town is "Sant Antoni" which takes place in mid January.

Campanet Campanet is a small inland town located at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains. It has a beautiful square in the center of the town which during summer nights is full of residents and tourists. We emphasize the caves of Campanet located on the outskirts of the town and the area where the famous "Fonts Ufanes" sprout.

Soller. Soller is a town located in a beautiful valley in the Sierra de Tramuntana. We highlight its historic center with the beautiful church of Sant Bartomeu located next to the Plaza de Sa Constitució. It has a historic train that connects it with the capital Palma and a tram that reaches the Port of Soller. Soller elebrates its popular weekly market on Saturdays.

Puert de Soller. Coastal town located next to the only natural port of the Sierra de Tramuntana. It has a beautiful sandy beach and a wide promenade with numerous restaurants and shops. Boats doing the tourist route to Sa Calobra depart daily from its port. The magnificent views from the lighthouse "Far des Cap Gros" stand out.

Valldemossa. Mountain town located in a beautiful valley of the Sierra de Tramuntana. From any point of the town the views are gorgeous. The center of the town is pedestrian and has many shops, bars and restaurants. Valldemossa is known for La Cartuja building and the Palace of King Sancho.

Deià. Picturesque town with beautiful mountain and sea landscapes. In the center of the town there are magnificent restaurants. In the town and surroundings we find some of the most exclusive residences in Mallorca.
